My Gr. Aunt Eudell COSTEN died June 12, 1998 in Snyder, OK. Can anyone mail me a copy of her obituary and/or any news items concerning the COSTEN family who were early settlers of Kiowa Co., arriving there in 1901 from Jack Co. TX. They were mostly bakers and butchers in the town of Snyder, I believe. I will gladly pay for copies and postage. Thanks in advance. Please contact Virginia Cottrell


ATTEBERRY, HAMILTON

I am searching for information on Elizabeth ATTEBERRY HAMILTON, b. July 25, 1890 and d. 15 Mar. 1967 in Snyder. I believe she was the daughter, of George Washington ATTEBERRY, my g-grandfather's nephew. G. W. ATTEBERRY died in Whitewright, TX, so I am told, ca 1939. If anyone has any information and would be willing to share, I would be most grateful. I have 1332 names in my Atteberry database. Not many considering I have been doing research for the past three years. I will be happy to share, only for personal research, "not for profit." DYE, Edward

My great grandfather, Edward DYE, moved from Kansas to Lone Wolf, Oklahoma in or about 1901. I assume he went there to find land. I know that he died in 1905 and family story suggests he died in Lone Wolf. I would like to confirm this and understand that there are no death records in Oklahoma to send for. Is anyone out there connected to cemeteries in the Lone Wolf area? would you be able to check for an Edward DYE. His wife was Ida M. Dye and his children were Roland and Leland DYE. The family came to California after his death. I believe Ida remarried but don't know to whom. It is possible she married someone in Kiowa area.Any help and advice is greatly appreciated. OK and had a Hobart, OK address in the 1900-1920 period. There were other MASON relatives in Roger Mills Co. and Beckham Co. OK in the same period. Any contact from this family is welcome. I am looking for information on my father, James Wayne WARD. He was born in Snyder sometime between July 1901 to July 1903. He spent time in Texas where he was a boxer. He eventually moved to California. Relations include a Ruby Jewel ( unknown surname) and a Brother (name unknown). He had sons named James Wayne WARD and David Wayne WARD in Texas. Seek any info on family of Jay Caldwell WILLARD who appear on 1910 Kiowa County census. Jay WILLARD b. 1848 in Pickens/Union Co., SC, wed Bettie, was in TX for 1900 census, and d. before 1940. William Raymond SHEPHERD was born 17 Nov. 1884, Tipton, MO, (Moniteau Co.) and died 13 April 1965 Oklahoma City, OK. His obituary, from the Daily Oklahoman, p.3, col.3, 13 April 1965 stated he lived at 320 NW 8 in Oklahoma City and died at his home. "Services will held in Snyder under direction of Preston-Leckie Funeral Home, and Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of city arrangements. He was formerly a manager of city hotels, motels, and apartments, lived at 900 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City and was employed at the St. Nicholas Hotel, also at 900 N. Broadway, Oklahoma City. He is survived by his wife, Madge." I am looking for any relatives of William Raymond or Madge SHEPHERD. I am hoping that a connection may be found in Snyder, OK. Please contact Raymond E. Shepherd

Seeking information about Colonel (his name, not his title)Andrew STARNES/STARNS, who was born Sept. 11, 1873 in TN, the son of James Henry STARNES/STARNS, Sr. and Narcissus (?) STARNES/STARNS. He moved with his family from Brittsville, Meigs CO. TN to Birchwood, James (now Hamilton CO) TN in 1882. He married Ida GROSS on Oct. 11, 1897 in Birchwood. At the time of the 1910 census he was living at 230 Lowe St., Hobart, Kiowa CO. OK. He owned several businesses in Hobart. He was divorced by Ida, subsequently remarried and died about 1941 in Oklahoma City, Ok. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Mike Frost

Trying to find where my ggrandmother died. Her name was Sarah FORD GROSS. Her husband Samuel GROSS d. 1894 and is buried at Moore, Cleveland CO. OK. It is said that Sarah died about 1904, while living with her son THomas Jefferson GROSS in Kiowa Co.. I believe he and his wife Anna may be buried in Snyder Cemetery. Any help appreciated. I am looking for info on Sally (Sarah) PARKS ATCHLEY, b. 1860-70's m. N. D. ATCHLEY, had 5 children Jack, Elec, Elige, Willie and Mabel, lived in Roosvelt. I know of one sister that she had, her name was Kate BUTLER. Sally died in childbirth with Willie. I know that she and N. D. are buried at Roosvelt, but I could not find their graves. In search of information on Curtis "Tommy" Ray McKINNEY, born 1918-1919, Rhinehart, Dallas County, Texas. He lived in an orphanage in Tipton, Tillman County OK, between 1933-1938. He married Opal Melba DEAN around 1941, lived in Snyder, Kiowa County, OK for some period after marraige, divorced 1948-1949. He is reported to have moved to Granite Greer Co. OK after divorce and remarried. He was a meat cutter/butcher by trade. He had a brother, "Bud" McKINNEY, who had a business in Vernon Wilbarger county, Texas. My g grandfather Carl Lesley REAVES was living in Kiowa Co. around 1910-1929. Carl had a farm close to Lone Wolf Creek. Carl lost everything in the crash of 1929. Carl and Bessie Emma GREGORY REAVES had two sons, Earl Monroe and Virgil Pinard. Both boys went to scholl there for a few years. I have been told that they had Indian blood. Both boys were given papers from school to have their dad sign, so when they were 21, both boys would get 160 acres of Indian Land. Please contact Nancy Reeves.
